Welcome to my blog!!!
Hello, my name is Ashley Majors, I live in Pensacola, FL, with my husband and two step-kiddos. A few fun things I love to do other than talk about nutrition are traveling out west and being on the water. I have been in the nutrition world for over 10 years and have been blessed doing different things within the nutrition world, and now I am on the path to passing my RD exam to become a licensed Registered Dietitian leading me to have my own online nutrition counseling business for women where I will be educating individuals about a gluten-free diet and much more!
This blog will be about my personal health journey and how I fell in love with the nutrition world from 2010 till now 14 years in the making. I will be focusing on digestive health and speaking a lot about gluten-free diets and gluten-free education along with Celiac Disease information. I would love this blog to be positive and uplifting to encourage all things in balance along with recipes on what I as a future dietitian eat! But for now, I'm excited to share my journey with you!
I have an extensive health history of Inflammatory Bowel Disease as I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis at the age of 16, but that's for a later blog. After I was super sick and had my colon removed in 2009, a year later, I discovered the world of nutrition. I read a book by doctor Jordan Rubin called "The Makers Diet". He is a doctor who healed himself of Crohn's Disease within 2 years from eating an all-organic diet, even to the point of not only what he was putting in his body but, on his body, as well. I started by buying his fruit and veggie capsules. I ate 90% organic for a whole summer in 2010 with my mom, but quickly found out it's expensive and not feasible for everyone. But his book opened my eyes to a whole new world, to think more about what I'm putting in my body, whether to heal or to harm. Especially seeing the importance of eating an organic diet and how important clean eating is for the healing of our body, along with the prevention of disease.
Then within 6 months, at the age of 22, I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease. Which is an autoimmune disease in the small intestine. The only cure is to eat a gluten-free diet for life. This is really where I shifted to nutrition. I was a nursing student, struggling to keep up with the workload due to being so sick during my first year and a half of college. I was devastated not being able to complete nursing school and having to change the course of my degree because all I ever wanted was to be a nurse. I was a Certified Nurse Assistant for 9 years, Caregiving was not just a profession, but a passion of mine. However, I believe that fate intervened and was a catalyst for change. It led me to change my major to dietetics, igniting a new fervor for nutrition. My diagnosis of Celiac Disease fueled my passion for nutrition! I was referred to a Registered Dietitian who taught me what Celiac Disease is, and all the intricacies of a gluten-free diet. This was the beginning of something beautiful, I never knew I was going to fall in love with nutrition, from learning how it impacts you on a cellular level to just your day-to-day life choices.
